The “chilled noodle” market has been seeing growing sales recently at convenience stores and supermarkets.
With a wide variety of products available that can be easily prepared by simply heating them in the microwave, these convenient noodle items are lining the shelves.
So, the Ramen-Japan staff decided to taste-test and compare them. This is the second installment of that series.
Once again, we gathered products from FamilyMart for our comparison.

SUSURU TV. Rich Tonkotsu Buta Musou: Rich Musou Ramen (SUSURU TV. 濃厚とんこつ豚無双 濃厚無双ラーメン)

We’ve crafted a satisfying dish using curly noodles that bring out the wheat flavor.
We paired them with a thick, viscous broth that delivers a robust pork umami.

Impressions
・It felt very similar to a rich “mazesoba” (mixed noodles). The sweetness from the pork back fat is delicious.
・The flavor is on the sweeter side, so if you want some kick, try adding pepper or chili flakes! Adding rice to make a risotto-style dish is also an option.

Ippudo-Supervised Tonkotsu Ramen (一風堂監修 とんこつラーメン)

The hearty thick noodles, combined with a rich, special broth featuring a sharp soy sauce flavor and a punch of garlic, create an addictive taste.

Impressionsecommended Points
・The garlic flavor is very strong. The portion is large and satisfying, but be careful not to eat this before meeting people. Since it’s chilled, I feel the flavor is highly authentic.
・Is this what they call the “Jiro-style”? I’ve never waited in line to eat there, but I was surprised by how strong the garlic soy sauce punch was.

Sapporo Junren-Supervised Soy Sauce Ramen (さっぽろ純連監修 正油ラーメン)

This product is supervised by “Sapporo Junren.”
We’ve paired a special soy sauce broth, known for its rich, deep flavor, with firm, specially aged noodles.
This is a carefully crafted shoyu ramen topped with round-cut chashu pork, onions, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and green onions.

Impressions
・The soup is rich and you can really taste the oil, but is it not lard? Or maybe the flavor is a bit bland?
・My immediate thought was, “It’s not miso in Sapporo, and why does it written as 正油 (shōyū) not 醤油 (shōyū).?”
・The noodles feel softer than I expected. The flavor is rich, so it might be irresistible for those who love rich flavors.

Suzukiya-Supervised Iekei Ramen (寿々㐂家監修 家系ラーメン)

This “Iekei Ramen” is supervised by “Suzukiya,” a famous Iekei ramen shop headquartered in Yokohama.
It features a well-balanced tonkotsu soy sauce broth packed with the rich umami of pork bones, combined with plenty of chicken fat for a satisfying finish.

Rairatei-Supervised Back Fat Soy Sauce Ramen(来来亭監修 背脂醤油ラーメン)

【Kanto】Tamuraya-supervised Sano Ramen with Wontons (田村屋監修 佐野ラーメン(ワンタン入り))

・The pork has a unique tenderness. It melts in your mouth and has a rich flavor. It has the flavor of charcoal-grilled chashu.
・The chicken bone Chinese broth has a distinctive, rounded flavor that really stands out.
・Black pepper adds a spicy kick, creating a retro Chinese noodle flavor.
・The wontons are a great accent—chewy and springy. I find it unusual to see spinach in Sano ramen.

・The meat is thick, just like the chashu you’d get at a restaurant.
・I think it could use a little more vegetables.

[Overall Impression]
I think this product does a relatively impressive job of recreating the Jiro-style hearty portion size and garlic flavor.(Ramen-so)
While the price is a bit higher than other convenience store noodle products, I feel like it’s packed with enough content to be reasonably satisfying.
