A new shop in Ebisu that inherits the business of the long-established Ogikubo ramen shop “Harukiya(春木屋)”

※Chuka Soba means Ramen, Chinese noodles with soup.
“Harukiya(春木屋)” was founded in 1949 (Showa 24). The first time I ate “Harukiya” was when I first moved to Tokyo, so it’s been almost 50 years. Has it been half a century already? The first place I lived after coming to Tokyo was Akishima City, near my sister’s house. So when I went to Tokyo, I used the Chuo Line, and since I had a commuter pass, I often got off along the way to eat ramen along the line.
“Harukiya” was famous from that time, so I ate there often. Ogikubo was called a ramen selection district, or something like the “holy land of Tokyo ramen,” so I often got off along the way.

I grew up eating Aizu ramen, but I’ve been living in Tokyo for a much longer time, so “Tokyo ramen” is in my blood and flesh.
In the face of the issue of succession, Harukiya approached Fuji Soba’s DAI-DAN Food Co., Ltd.(ダイダンフード) about taking over the business, and it seems that an agreement was reached around 2020. As a result, in 2022, it will open a shop at Kawasaki Lazona, and then next in Ebisu on April 17, 2025.
I went to eat in Kawasaki, so it’s quite moving to see them opening a shop in Ebisu this time.
Around 11:30, I was walking along the bus route at the east exit of Ebisu Station when I saw a line. I thought there was a line after all, but it was a line for Tokyo Butaman(東京豚饅), so I was relieved for a moment. The line at Harukiya next to it was longer. It was a dozen people, though. There are 23 seats in total, including 15 seats at the counter and two tables for four people, and the turnover is surprisingly fast. (After we finished eating, there were about 15 people waiting.)

The main menu items are:
Chuka Soba 950 yen, Wonton Noodles 1350 yen, Charshu Noodles 1450 yen, Special Chuka Soba 1550 yen, Abura Soba 950 yen, Tsukemen 1050 yen, Natto Tsukemen 1150 yen, Charshu Rice 380 yen, Mini Harukiya Showa Curry 380 yen, and others.
Completely cashless system. Late-night rates apply after 10pm. Open until 3am.
I bought a Chinese noodle and a mini curry. There is a famous “Harukiya theory” among ramen lovers, which is that the taste is evolving every day.
I think they have “evolved and changed” this time as well when they opened the Ebisu shop.
When I went to Kawasaki, it was different from what I imagined, but this time I thought “I’ll try it a few times,” so since it’s close to my office and home, I’ll probably come back many times from now on. First of all, I want to come and eat “Natto Tsukemen” soon.
